We charged all batteries, packed up my car, and took off for a 12-hour day of filming. The first scenes were all about a cute guy in a cute car, who takes his journal to the beach. My beloved neighbor Richard Preston and his 1969 Karmann Ghia fit that description. Lucky Ralph, he got to ride shotgun.
Yeah! Ralph got that shot.
Richard's been following the production activities very closely. As we've been traveling for most of the year, it was great to know he's around to take care of things. Of course he got to peek in a few journals, too, but he's still chewing on an idea for his own entry. "Story of my life," he said. "I just can't make up my mind."
We continued south to meet Gary Baseman at the Laguna Beach Art Museum, which had recently opened the show "Pervasion: The Art of Gary Baseman and Tim Biskup." Gary was giving a lecture about his work, and we didn't want to miss that. Gary has designed the cover for Journals 941 to 950, and Someguy wrote this mini profile: "Gary is the artist behind the award winning animated television show Teacher's Pet, the board game Cranium, and about a thousand other things. He's as close to being a rock star as one gets?" In any event, if you get a chance to see Gary's lecture, go.
