Networking

If it weren't for the "work" in networking, I'd feel guilty spending so much time on Facebook. It's a great way to connect and catch up with everyone. For instance, with Zihan, whom we filmed in Singapore. He "wrote on my wall" that he is invited to the AFI Fest with his short film, Solos. Solos is a hot potato item in Singapore and rated there a sexy R21. I made Facebook friends with Anna Maria Polidori, who wrote about the Journals Project (1001, and 1000) in the Italian Corriere dell'Umbria and sent me the wonderfully old-world off-line article. People are joining the "show me the film" group, and now I can keep the news flowing in all directions. If you haven't already, join the party!

Countdown

I'd lie if I told you I'm new to this. I brought numerous films to festivals and markets, I held hands during world premieres, answered questions in Q&A sessions, sat on panels, I hustled, I pimped… but it is quite a challenge for me to apply these experiences to 1000 Journals. I racked my brains why. My smartest friends, like Marcia Nasatir, and Tom Garvin, talked me through this: I worked on nothing but 1000 Journals for nearly 4 years, and now the film is growing up and I have to let it go. Instinctively, I stand in front of the film, protecting it. But my place is behind it. It needs all the support it can get on the way out of the gate, and that's where we all come in… So, here are even more links: We are on Facebook, on Livejournal, on Myspace, and there's also a page on YouTube. Everything will be updated with the AFI Fest screening info and the new trailer. Tom and David Magdael helped me put together a festival schedule, so the film can travel to where you are, across the country, around the world. Someguy is working on a poster. Chronicle Books will make sure the books are at the screenings for all to see. There will be a few of the journals we found, too. If you can, clear your schedules and join us in Los Angeles at the AFI Fest.

So many homes…

Facebook

…and so many new links. Yesterday morning, I became friends with old friends on Facebook. The 1000 Journals World Premiere was mentioned a few more times, on Yahoo, in Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, on IndieWire, and the New York Times. What we will have on our plate for the next few weeks is to find out how to consolidate and disseminate news and updates, how to get the word out. To this end, Publicist David Magdael joined the 1000 Journals team. Check out his IMDb listing, and website.

To answer the many questions about the AFI Fest: As far as we know, the festival schedule with screening days and times will be locked in the week of September 17. Individual tickets go on sale October 12. Check the AFI website for updates. Someguy and I will email everyone on the sign-up lists the moment tickets become available. If you haven't already, please sign up, share with your friends, and stay tuned…
