Port Townsend Film Festival -- more from Stuart

Stuart kept reporting from the PTFF in several installments today, all sent from his iPhone.

9:48 AM: Got to catch a ferry to Whidbey Island to see Maxine Martell. I hope I'll have connectivity there, but I'll write more as soon as I can.

12:09 PM: We're at the ferry, waiting to cross over Puget Sound to visit 1000 Journals artist Maxine Martell. I met many of the PTFF staff in town this morning and had a chance to thank them for their wonderful hospitality, generosity, respect, and attention to detail for each film. I would recommend this festival to any filmmaker because the staff and the entire town deeply care about the event. It was well attended by people all over the area, including Seattle. Although we did not "win" Best Documentary, the film was very popular and much talked about. Lots of questions in both Q&A's. More photos to follow.

Sent from his iPhone, our composer Stuart Balcomb reported this morning from the Port Townsend Film Festival: "Our first screening went very well. The Rose Theatre has 158 seats and it was a packed house... good laughter where it should have been, empathy for lost journals, lots of questions at the end. Festival staff is superb. There are 5-6 venues around town, from 350 seats down to 74 seats, and even straw-bale seating outdoors in front of the Rose Theatre for public night screenings, such as "The Black Stallion," which we saw a piece of from our window table while eating before we went to a screening of short films. I'll send more photos and commentary tomorrow. We screen again tonight at 6:15. By the way, Piper Laurie is here with her directorial debut. There was also a private reception last night for her, following a screening of "The Hustler."

In Deutschland/Germany: TOM's Book

In this version of a collaborative journals project, Someguy has a name: Tom. TOMs Book is a beautifully designed German site featuring 80 traveling journals. The theme is Newspapers -- people's emotions, reactions, thoughts, and opinions on what they find in the paper. Tom writes he had seven boxes filled with clippings which at some point in his life moved him and couldn't be thrown away. And so TOMs Book was born, inspired by 1000 Journals, and a bet with a friend.

In the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung is this story about TOM's Book and 1000 Journals...
