Grant Dillion surprised me today with pictures and impressions from the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. He had presented our film, ran the Q+As, and mingled a weekend long with other filmmakers and fans. We spoke on the phone between the screenings, and Grant sounded so happy and excited, especially about meeting Michael York, and Pepper Pepper, who emailed us his glowing review of the film.
Here are Grant's pictures and captions.
Posing beside the poster for 1000 Journals outside the theater on opening night.
Left: Talking with Mark Payne, the Emmy Award winning makeup artist and director of the documentary, Get Happy. Right: Hanging out with Mark Payne and his posse of transvestites.
Left: Outside on the 7th floor Pool/Spa deck of the Arlington Hotel. Although the water was heated I didn't even want to take my jacket off, much less go swimming! Right: On one of the outdoor terraces of the Arlington Hotel.
Left: The Ronald Regan suite at the Arlington Hotel. They had others like the Al Capone suite, but this one was my favorite. Although I would have gone nuts over a Richard Nixon suite. Right: The elevators of the Arlington Hotel. Very reminiscent of the movies 1408 and The Shining. Unfortunately no massive amounts of blood ever rushed out of these while I was around.
Left: Outside the Buckstaff Bathhouse, one of the oldest spas in the city. Right: Stopping for a picture beside a sign dedicated to Bill Clinton, a rarity in Arkansas considering it's an extremely Republican state.
Talking with Michael York in the filmmakers lounge of the festival. He said that he had seen 1000 Journals a few hours before and really enjoyed it.
