From Murai's Art Mailing, Day 456, March 31, 2009
In the year 2000, "Someguy" started sending out 1,000 journals for people to create art in and pass on to others. They went to 40 countries and many are still not accounted for. At least 30 returned to him and they are the subject of a book, a DVD, a movie and a several month run at SFMOMA. The 1000 Journals exhibition is at the Museum in the Koret Center. It is a delight to see and will be there through April 5th. The vision and generosity of "Someguy" is global.
I met Murai when 1000 Journals screened at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco, August 2008. She invited me to join her mailing list, a daily art dispatch of her paintings, collages, photos, poems and musings. You can see the archive on her website muraiart.com. Murai just published a book based on her Daily Art, Heirs and Forebears, available on Blurb.
